Description
The bridge in the tea garden at Heale House is a footbridge over an arm of the River Avon. It dates from the 19th century or earlier, with construction around 1900. The bridge is made of red painted timber and features bowstring arched timber carriages supported by each bank. It has a balustrade with stanchions topped with turned bronze finials, and the end bays of the balustrade splay outwards. The decking consists of spaced timber baulks, and there are applied decorative panels at the junction of the props with the carriages. This bridge is part of the 19th-century tea garden at Heale House and was made in Japan, inspired by the design of a bridge in Nikko.
