Description

Eastcourt House is a country house dated 1658 on the north front, with a mid-18th century addition, late 19th century alterations and additions, and a 20th century extension. The building is constructed of squared and coursed rubble, featuring flush rusticated dressed stone quoins, stone dressings, and stone slate roofs, along with tall stone stacks that have moulded caps. The house has an L-shaped plan, with 17th century ranges on the left and center of the north front, an 18th century addition at the center rear, and an early 20th century block on the right. The 17th century ranges are two storeys high with a five-bay recessed centerpiece, while the 18th century block rises to three storeys at the center, and the 20th century wing is two storeys with an attic. The fenestration of the 17th century ranges includes cavetto-moulded cross-mullions with hoodmoulds and two and three-light mullions, especially noticeable on the rear of the 18th century block. The 20th century wing features 12-pane sashes. A central late 19th century projecting stone porch is present, with hipped roofs. The south front consists of three elements: the 20th century block on the left, the 18th century section in the center, and the rear wall of the 17th century cross-wing on the right. Sash windows are used throughout. The central advanced section of the 18th century block has an engaged Doric porch and a part-glazed door. Continuous string courses are found on the 17th century range, a blocking course on the 18th century block, and a bracketed cornice on the 18th century wing. The interior is inaccessible, but Pevsner notes a staircase with turned balusters and a fine drawing room decorated around 1750.
