Description
South Lodge is a lodge for Pythouse, dated 1869 on a datestone and built for the Bennett family, with a 20th-century addition. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a tiled roof featuring bands of fishscale tiles and diagonally-set stone stacks. The building has a T-plan, is single storey with an attic, and has two windows. There is a 19th-century door in the gabled wing facing the drive, with a canted bay to the left that has a 2-light casement above, displaying the Bennett heraldic arms on a stone tablet above it. The left side facing the main road has two 2-light stone mullioned casements on the ground floor, a wooden oriel to the left, and a single casement on the right gable of the attic, with the datestone above. Attached to the left is a 20th-century addition in a similar style. The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey in February 1986.
