Description
Eastcott House is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with an early 19th-century addition. The earlier section at the rear is constructed of greensand rubble, and the upper level of the front was originally timber framed but has since been replaced with brick. The house features a pantiled roof. The 19th-century front block is made of Flemish brickwork set on a stone sill, topped with a slated roof.
The building is single storey and attic, raised to two storeys, and has three bays. The two left bays contain a central four-panelled door with a flat canopy supported by brackets. To the left is a three-light casement window, while the right bay features a canted bay window. There is also a stone-mullioned window on the rear elevation. The upper floor has 19th-century three-light casements, and the third bay, beyond the axial stack, is similar.
An early 19th-century cross wing has been added, which is two storeys high and has three bays with a symmetrical elevation. The central half-glazed door is deeply recessed within an arched and rounded opening. Flanking this door are large tripartite 12-pane sashes with blind heads set within finely gauged brick arches. The upper floor features 16-paned sashes with painted reveals and stone sills that extend across the elevation as a string course. The roof of this section is hipped.
Inside, the front block has panelled shutters and doors, and there is a marble fireplace in the left room, which was originally the better parlour.
