Description
Lower Hawk Street Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located in Bromham. It features a roughcast exterior with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and is designed in a T-plan. It has ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows, including a 4-light window and a 2-light window on the upper floor, and a 4-light ground floor window with a dripstone. The entrance is through a 6-panel door set in a gabled timber porch.
Between the upper windows, there is an ashlar plaque that may be a sundial, adorned with two Baroque capitals similar to those found on No 11 Church Street in Lacock, which are believed to have originated from the demolished Bowden Park around 1684, as well as those on Rowde Hall. To the right, a crosswing projects from the main structure, featuring 4-light windows with king-mullions on the main floors, a dripstone over the lower window, and a dripcourse on the first floor. The attic includes a timber 3-light leaded window with a carved lintel, and there is a side wall stack.
The end wall of the main range has a blocked 2-light attic window and a sash window on the main floors, both set in ovolo-moulded frames. There is a door to the left. The rear of the crosswing showcases exposed timber framing on the inner side and one upper window with a carved timber lintel. Additionally, there are brick hipped extensions at the back, and the main range has a brick rear addition.
