Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a detached cottage located in West Knoyle, dating from the late 17th century with an extension added around 1700. The building is constructed from chalk and limestone rubble and features a half-hipped thatched roof with a brick stack, which was originally at the gable end of the late 17th-century section. The cottage is single-storey with an attic and has two windows on the front. There is a planked door to the left and two 2-light casement windows to the right, along with a 20th-century porch and door, and a 20th-century extension in a similar style to the right. The front also includes two eyebrow dormers with 2-light casement windows. The left side of the cottage has two 2-light casements on the ground floor and one in the attic. The rear features 2-light casements on the ground floor and in the eyebrow dormers, as well as a blocked doorway. Inside, there are two open fireplaces; the central one retains a chamfered lintel on stone jambs and there are chamfered beams throughout. Originally, it was a single-cell late 17th-century cottage, with a one-bay addition made to the west end shortly after its initial construction.
