Description
West Hill Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse located in West Knoyle. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone and features a tiled roof with coped verges and gable end brick stacks. The building has an L-plan layout and is two storeys high with three windows across the front. A central gabled porch with French windows is flanked by three-light segmental-headed casements on either side. The first floor also has three three-light segmental-headed casements.
To the left of the main structure, there is a 20th-century flat-roofed porch extension that serves as the main entrance. At the rear, a brick lean-to extension includes three-light and two-light casements, along with a 20th-century dormer. The rear wing features a two-light chamfered mullioned casement and both two-light and three-light leaded casements on the west side, as well as a lean-to extension on the east side.
Inside, the farmhouse has been remodeled but still retains some original features such as chamfered beams, window shutters, and four-panelled doors. The room to the left of the entrance includes a square stone beaded fireplace surround. This farmhouse was part of the Hoares of Stourhead West Knoyle estate.
