Description

The Brakspear monument is a tomb located in the churchyard about 4 meters from the east boundary wall, east of the south aisle of the Church of St. Bartholomew. It dates from around 1899 and is likely the work of Sir H. Brakspear. The monument is made of red sandstone and features a heavy inscribed plinth with a low ridged top divided into six panels. At the head, there is an ornate circled cross adorned with ballflower ornamentation. The footstone is lower and has a curved head with carvings. The inscriptions commemorate W.H. Brakspear, an architect who died in 1898 and was associated with The Priory in Corsham, and Sir H. Brakspear KCVO, who died in 1934 and was an architect at Pickwick Manor.
