Description
The Kingston Deverill War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1931, with additions for the Second World War. It is situated in the churchyard to the south-west of the Grade II*-listed Church of St Mary, near the southern boundary wall and close to the Grade II-listed Young Monument.
The memorial features a tall Latin cross made of Doulting stone, which rises from a square plinth that sits on a three-stepped base. The names of the fallen are inscribed on bronze plaques attached to the east and west faces of the plinth.
The main inscription on the east face reads, "1914-1918/ THEIR NAMES LIVETH/ FOR EVERMORE/ (7 NAMES)/ OF THIS PARISH." The west face bears a second inscription dedicated to those who died in the Second World War, stating, "1939-1945/ (5 NAMES)."
