Description
Townsend is a detached house dating from the mid-17th century, with early 20th-century additions and alterations. It is constructed of uncoursed dressed limestone and features a thatched roof with stone stacks, forming an L-plan layout. The house is two stories high and has a three-window front.
To the left of the center, there is a porch that includes a 20th-century two-light ovolo-mullioned window beneath a catslide roof. To the left of the porch is a three-light ovolo-mullioned window, and to the right is a three-light recessed hollow-chamfered mullioned window. On the first floor, there is a three-light recessed hollow-chamfered mullioned window, along with a four-light and a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned window.
The right side of the house has a single recessed chamfered light in the attic, while the left side features a two-light and a three-light 20th-century mullioned window with hoodmoulds, as well as a single recessed chamfered light in the attic. The house has coped verges. At the rear, there is an early 20th-century wing designed in the same style, which includes two-light mullioned windows. The rear and interior of the house were not accessible during the survey conducted in March 1985.
