Description

Former farmhouse, now a country house, dating from the early 17th century with an addition built in the late 17th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with stone dressings and has gabled stone slate roofs and stone stacks. It follows an L-shaped plan, with the original early 17th-century range set at right angles to the road and a later 17th-century block running parallel to the west. The central part of the original range is two storeys with a three-window front, while the later block is two storeys and has an attic, also with a three-window front. The windows on the original range have two lights with cavetto-moulded mullions and small leaded pane casements. The windows on the later block have two and three lights with ovolo-moulded mullions and small leaded pane casements, featuring strainer arches above the ground and first-floor windows, and two gables containing attic windows. A late 19th-century doorcase, with a gabled hood on brackets, is positioned slightly off-centre on the left side of the original range. The interior includes extensive restoration work, retaining chamfered beams, two inglenook fireplaces (one in each range), some 17th-century panelled doors, and a butt-purlin, tie-beam roof structure in the late 17th-century block.
