Description
This is a fine medieval barn located to the southwest of Manor Farmhouse, which is part of the original manorial complex mentioned by Aubrey. The barn likely dates from the 15th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed rubble with dressed stone used for the buttresses and the jambs of the midstreys. The roof is made of corrugated asbestos. The barn features a long eight-bay range with full-height gabled midstreys asymmetrically placed on the north and south sides. There are also segmental-headed cart openings with plank doors on both sides, and the buttresses have set-offs that define the bays. Inside, the barn has a butt-purlin, collar, and tie-beam roof structure, with some timbers having been renewed.
