Description
Lime Tree Cottage and The Kennel are former almshouses that have been converted into two cottages. They are dated on the west gable end as 'WM/AD/1847' and feature a late 19th-century shop window along with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed from squared and coursed rubble, with timber bargeboards and a concrete slate roof that has stone stacks with rebuilt caps.
This two-storey and attic structure has a six-window range set at right angles to the road. The south elevation includes 2 and 3-light pointed-headed casements, with attic windows situated under the gables. The end bays have attenuated gables, while half-hipped gables are found between them, all adorned with decorative bargeboards. There are three plank doors, one of which is part-glazed and all are sheltered by lean-to stone slate porches. A string course runs along the building, with developed gables above each porch.
The roadside gable end features two single-light Tudor-arched windows with hoodmoulds, the datestone, and a half-hipped gable. The late 19th-century former shop window is located on the ground floor. Overall, this building is a vigorous and largely unaltered example of Early Victorian design.
