Description

This is an 18th-century refronting of a much earlier building situated on St Nicholas’s Road. The building’s construction incorporates flint, stone rubble, and brick on the ground floor, with mathematical tile facing above. It features a band cornice with a lead drip and a tile-hung parapet, topped by an old tile roof. The facade has four sash windows on the first floor, each with four panes, and three irregularly spaced windows on the ground floor. A plain door is located within a later, flint rubble arched porch with stone dressings. A brick gabled wing extends to the rear of the property.

Historically, the building was originally part of the College de Valle, founded in 1261 by Bishop Bridport as a theological college; this college continued to operate on the site until the Dissolution. Numbers 6 and 8 form a group with Number 9 De Vaux Place.
