Description
This is an 18th and 19th century mill and mill-cottage, now a preparatory school, constructed of chequered brick for the cottage and red brick for the mill. The cottage has a slate roof, flush quoins to the right corner, and a two-storey, double-fronted elevation featuring cyma-moulded two-light flush mullion windows. A central door, now a window, is set within a flush moulded surround. A later brick gabled porch has been added. The windows have leaded lights. The mill building itself is composed of a three-storey section with Bridgwater tiles adjoining the cottage, and a four-storey section with a half-hipped plain tile roof at the left end. The three-storey section has scattered fenestration and a door to the right. The four-storey section has a single-window range across its front elevation; some windows have cambered heads. A door is located on the ground floor to the left, and a loading door is positioned on the first floor to the right, both with cambered heads. More recently installed metal windows are present. The end wall features a single-window range of cambered-head openings, although some of this fenestration has been blocked or altered. The mill was recorded on site as a specialist dye-house in the 18th century and was then known as Jordan’s Mill.
