Description

The stables at Manor House, built in 1800, are a stable block constructed using materials from a demolished building dating back to 1750. The structure is made of red brick with some diaper patterns and features a hipped slate roof topped with an octagonal timber cupola that has an ogee-cap and a large weathervane. It stands two storeys high with a shallow-gabled centre that projects slightly and includes a nogged brick band.

The front of the stables has seven oval lights made of ashlar, which are arranged in a seemingly random pattern. These lights are likely reused, with the upper floor lights set horizontally and featuring tripartite leaded glass, while the ground floor lights are set vertically with leaded cross lights. The central projection includes a blank panel in the gable, an oval window on the first floor, and two elliptical arched coach entries, each with ashlar flush keystones and imposts.

On each side of the building, there is one oval window on the first floor and a ground floor door that has a raised moulded stone surround with a keystone, flanked by oval windows on either side. A Tudor-style brick chimney is located on the rear roof slope. The rear wall features four blank panels with cambered heads. The reused materials are believed to have originated from a folly known as Maggot's Castle, which was built in Easterton, Wiltshire in 1750.
