Description
Homington Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse with attached 19th-century farm buildings. It is located in Homington Village, Coombe Bissett. The farmhouse was built in the mid-18th century and altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick, with a tiled roof, hipped to the right, and brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape. The front has two storeys and three windows. A partly glazed door with fielded panels is set within a gabled brick porch on the left side of the centre, with a 16-pane sash window with margin lights to the left and right. A blind segmental-arched window is on the right. A three-brick plat band runs along the first floor. Above are two 16-pane sashes with margin lights, one 12-pane sash, and one square blind window to the right. The right return was rebuilt in the 19th century and contains a 16-pane sash and a three-light casement window to the ground floor, with a 16-pane sash and a leaded three-light casement window to the first floor. The left return has a lean-to addition, and a vitrified brick lozenge-shaped decoration to the first-floor attic, alongside a casement window. The rear has a 19th-century lean-to, a two-light casement window to the first floor, and a two-story wing rebuilt in the mid-19th century with casement windows. Internally, the farmhouse features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and planked doors leading to the first floor. Attached to the rear are 19th-century single-storey farm buildings that enclose a courtyard on three sides. These buildings are constructed of Flemish garden wall bond brick with tiled roofs and include planked stable doors and casements.
