Description

Nos 15 to 17 on High Street are a range of houses dating from the 16th to the 19th century, constructed from rubble stone with stone slate roofs. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic and feature two parallel gabled ranges facing High Street.

The left gable, which is No 15, has a door accessed by steps and a first-floor three-light cyma-moulded recessed mullion window with a hoodmould above it. The west side wall includes a large central outside stack, and there are casement pairs on each floor to the left, with a plastered upper floor to the right that sits over a 16th-century five-light hollow-moulded recessed mullion window.

The right gable, No 16, is set back and features a single light in the gable, a first-floor two-light cyma-moulded recessed mullion window with a hoodmould, and a ground-floor four-light chamfered recessed mullion window. There is a similar two-light window on the first floor of the east side wall and a ground-floor chamfered single light.

To the right, there is a 19th-century two-storey L-plan addition, which has a recessed section with a door leading to Nos 16 and 17, and a projecting gable for No 17 that includes casement pairs on each floor.

The interior of No 15 has not been inspected, but the ground floor of No 16 features a 16th-century wall painting in a recess depicting falconry.
