Description
No. 1 West Street is a 17th-century house constructed from timber-frame and rubble stone, topped with a stone slate roof and featuring a stack at the south end. The building is 1½ storeys high and has two gables, each adorned with small 1-3-1 light canted timber oriel windows. On the ground floor to the left, there is a tension brace supporting the framing and a triple casement window in a projecting bay. The right side of the ground floor has its framing hidden by a stone lean-to, which includes a door and another triple casement window. To the left, there is a single-storey 19th-century addition with an end stack. Inside, the ground floor left features panelled shutters. At the rear, there is a 2-light stone mullion window that is now internal. This house is situated at an important site at the west end of High Street.
