Description
The Savernake Forest Hotel is a building from the mid-19th century, originally part of the Ailesbury Estate and now functioning as a hotel. It features diaper-patterned brickwork and a patterned slate roof. The structure is two storeys high with six bays, and the central two bays project forward in an irregular manner. There are arched stone entrances on either side, leading to a lounge on the left and a dining room on the right, with a banqueting suite forming the rear wing on the left. The porches have been enclosed. The windows are paired, pointed arches with stone surrounds and plate glass sashes, and there is a yellow brick plat band. The first floor displays a vigorous diaper pattern, while the eaves are offset and supported by brick brackets. The tall chimneys are quoined in stone. The return wing on the left features triple pointed arched windows on the ground floor and angled heads on the upper floor. Inside, the hotel retains its original 19th-century staircase and some fireplaces, along with moulded ceiling cornices.
