Description
The Castle Public House is a mid-19th century classical building located on Ashton Street. It stands three storeys tall and features three windows. The structure is made of red brick with stone quoins that create a long and short work pattern on the east side. It has a stone plinth, lintel bands, and stone dressings. The windows are cross windows with casements, with tripartite windows on the ground and first floors that include stone mullions. The first floor has a round-headed window in the center, and an inn sign hangs at right angles from it, supported by iron stays and wrought iron work. The building has projecting bracketed eaves with pendants and a shallow pitched double ridge roof, topped with four ashlar gable end chimneys. A central projecting porch is supported by slim cast iron columns adorned with leaf ornament, featuring cut brackets to the cornice with pendants, and two sides are enclosed with cast iron railings. The front is level with stone flags. The Castle Public House is part of a group with Nos 8 to 28 (even).
