Description

The building is a workshop dating from the 18th century, located to the southwest of Courtfield House, and it includes a lead pump. It is two storeys tall and constructed of red brick with a stone tile roof. On the first floor, there are three pairs of glazing bar sash windows with timber lintels. A large lintel on the ground floor to the right connects the workshop to the main house, along with two smaller long common lintels. Inside, there is a notable 18th-century lead pump that was previously located near the entrance but is now indoors. At the rear, a large round-headed cast iron casement window is situated in the center of the first floor, featuring an opening ratchet and three wall chimneys. Additionally, there are steps leading from the main house to the interior of the first floor, which includes a secret hiding place. Samuel Pitman was apprenticed here.
