Description

33 to 35 Church Road is a group of cottages dating from the 17th century. They are constructed with a timber frame and painted brick, topped with thatched roofs. The buildings are 1 and a half storeys high and have an L-shaped front range with a rear wing. The main range features a half-hipped west gable, two ridge stacks, and a rebuilt stack at the angle of No 35, along with a north end stack.

Nos 33 and 34 have a long eyebrow over two pairs of casement windows on the left and one on the right, with a painted brick porch at No 34 on the ground floor to the left, followed by a cambered-head casement pair. No 33 has a ground floor casement pair and a door within an enclosed painted brick porch. There is some exposed framing at No 33, while No 34 is entirely brick. The west end of No 33 displays exposed jowled angle posts, a tie-beam, and a dollar. It also features a two-light 19th-century stone mullion window on the ground floor and a casement pair above. The east gable of No 34 is painted brick and includes a 19th-century two-light mullion window with leaded lights on both floors. The rear wing of No 34 has exposed square framing on the west side.

No 35 shows exposed framing on the west front, a dormer gable on the left, and a ground floor casement pair, door, and lean-to. The north wall is brick with exposed angle posts, while the east side has exposed framing with angle and tension bracing, a door, and two leaded casement pairs. The thin framing may date from the late 17th century.
