Description
101 to 104 Exeter Street is a row of four houses with origins dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. They were heightened and refronted in the late 18th century. The buildings are three storeys high with rendered fronts, and the added second floor slightly overhangs, featuring a moulded boxed beam. The roof is steep, hipped, and covered with old tiles.
The upper floors have four windows, with the second floor showcasing flush framed casements that include glazing bars. The first floor has flush framed sash windows, also with intact glazing bars. The ground floors of Nos 101 and 102 feature sash windows with five panes by four panes, and the frames are linked to the doorcases. Nos 103 and 104 have larger former shop windows with two hinged sections, each with two panes by four panes. The entrance of No 104 is set back at an angle next to a passage entrance. The doors have four to six panels and are set in panelled and reeded doorcases.
Inside No 101, the original front corner post is visible, and on the second floor, there is a room with reset 16th-century panelling. At the rear, the second floor is slate hung, and there is a later gable at the back of No 104.
Nos 99 to 112 Exeter Street form a group with these houses.
