Description
Little Chalfield Manor is a detached house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a Welsh slate hipped roof and ashlar stacks. The house is two storeys high featuring a three-window front. The central entrance has a four-panelled door leading up stone steps, topped by a fanlight with diamond glazing bars and sidelights. Cast-iron supports hold up a tent porch. Either side of the door are 16-pane sash windows, each with a blind box and dripstone, and the bays are divided by pilasters. The first floor also features three 16-pane sashes. The basement has chamfered rustication. The left and right returns each have two 16-pane sashes to both the ground and first floors, while the basement of the right return has two small paired sashes. The rear elevation includes 16-pane sashes and a six-panelled door, alongside a rear service wing with casements and small sashes. Inside, the entrance hall features an open-well staircase with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail, along with original joinery. Six-panelled doors are set in moulded architraves, and window shutters are present throughout. The front drawing rooms are fitted with marble fireplaces. The drawing room to the right has a vine plaster ceiling margin and a fruit and floral-decorated ceiling frieze, while the drawing room to the left of the entrance has a scrolled ceiling frieze.
