Description
Springfield Cottage is a 16th-century cottage located on Church Road in Farley. It features a timber frame with colourwashed brick infill, set on brick footings, and is topped with a thatched roof. The cottage is one storey and has an attic, consisting of two main bays with a central stack. To the right, there is an added weatherboarded half bay, which is further extended by another half bay under a lower roof. The framing consists of two panels high, with tension bracing to jowled posts, and much of the timber used is reused. The original door to the second bay has been replaced by a door in the gable, which is sheltered by a tiled porch. The windows are timber casements, and there is one flush dormer on the front. Inside, a floor has been inserted on nailed rails within an earlier framed building, which features an open hearth and a superior bay to the right. The roof has principals that support the ridge on a nailed yoke.
