Description

Orchard Cottage is a house dating from the 18th century. It is located in Barton Orchard, Bradford on Avon. The house is constructed of painted ashlar with a slate roof and eaves. It is three storeys high, with a five-window front; the side windows are arranged in pairs, with one pair in the centre. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. A central window on the second floor is square-headed and Venetian in style, with all lights blocked. The first-floor central window is also Venetian, featuring a round-headed centre light and a keystone, with all lights blocked. Plain horizontal string courses are present at the first-floor level, and at the first and second-floor sill levels, supported by cut-stone brackets. The central doorway has a semi-circular head, a keystone, imposts and a triangular pediment resting on cut stone brackets. A small, low-walled forecourt with steps leads up from the road. A two-storey extension is set back to the right.
