Description
Barn and stables for Sunnylands, dating from the 17th to 18th century, are located in Milton Lilbourne. The buildings are timber framed with weatherboarded cladding, while the stabling is made of brick, all topped with thatched roofs. The range of buildings is arranged at right angles to the road. Closest to the road is a 5-bay brick stable featuring a continuous manger and a fodder loft above, along with a corner stair. This is followed by a 5-bay timber structure that is open-fronted on jowled posts; at the time of the survey in October 1985, the two further bays were without roofs. At the end of the range is a 5-bay barn with a single aisle on the east side, which is set at right angles and forms a stockyard. The barn's roof features ties with raking struts to the principal rafters, which decrease in size above the clasped purlins. The barn extends to the north with an additional 2-bay store. This group of buildings serves as an important visual landmark at the southern end of the village.
