Description

This is a cottage dating to the 17th and 18th centuries, situated approximately 24 metres south east of Stripple Farmhouse. It is timber-framed with brick noggings and Flemish bond brickwork, with a tiled roof. The cottage is a single storey with an attic, originally two bays. The upper bay retains timber framing, three panels high with corner braces; the timbers on the south side have been refaced. The lower bay is wider and constructed of brick with an offset plinth, and the gable wall was rebuilt in the 20th century. A 20th-century lean-to has been added at the upper end, and the main entrance is in the centre, opposite a brick stack on the north east side. A boarded door is sheltered by a timber gabled hood. Various 20th-century windows are fitted with boarded shutters, and there are early 20th-century flush gabled dormers on the north east front and gable. A brick stack projects from the roof, which itself is half-hipped. Internally, the fireplace at the kitchen end has been blocked. The living room has an open fireplace with a timber lintel. Both rooms contain spine beams and a staircase is located behind the stack.
