Description
Two cottages, originally one, dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, with a later addition around 1930. The cottages are timber-framed with whitewashed brick noggings, substantially replacing the original wattle and daub infill. They have thatched roofs. The building is single-storey with an attic and originally comprised three bays, with a fourth bay added in the 1930s to create the second cottage, number 1, occupying the end two bays. The timber framing is heavy, extending three panels high, and incorporates straight corner braces. Number 2 has a porch with a panelled door set in the central bay. There are 20th-century timber casement windows, and a flush dormer window above each bay; the dormer above the central bay has a framed gable with markings indicating a former oriel window on the underside. Number 1 has a rustic thatched porch and paned windows. A main stack now sits on the party wall between the cottages, and a gable stack is on the 1930s addition. The thatch slopes down over weatherboarded lean-to extensions to the right gable of number 2 and the rear. The interior of the central bay features a stone stack with a timber fire lintel on brick jambs, and chamfered spine beams throughout the rooms.
