Description

A pair of cottages on Church Street, dating to the early 18th century. They are constructed of rubble stone with a pantiled roof and brick stacks. The cottages are two storeys with an attic, and feature a five-window front. A central lobby provides entry, framed by a moulded stone architrave with a continuous moulded string course extending into a hoodmould. The inner door to No. 232 is original with fielded panels, while No. 233 has a 20th-century replacement. On either side of the entrance are five-light, cyma-mullioned casement windows. The first floor has two two-light mullioned casement windows on each side of a bull's eye window placed above the door. The attic is lit by two raking dormers, each with a two-light casement. At the time of survey in May 1987, the rear of the cottages and their interiors were inaccessible, but it was reported that they contain open fireplaces and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
