Description

A barn dating to the 16th century, subsequently altered, stands on the west side to the rear of No 7 Paddock Close in Great Somerford. The barn is timber-framed and has weatherboard cladding above a rubble plinth. Its roof is half-hipped and covered with corrugated iron. The barn has four bays. The west end wall contains a full cruck truss with a tie-beam, collar, and truncated apex. A second full cruck truss is also present, featuring side spurs, a collar, and a missing apex. The third and fourth trusses are of tie-beam and collar construction, potentially dating to the 18th century. The east end wall contains a tie-beam with curved principals, possibly reused from a cruck frame above.
