Description

Lane House is a pair of cottages, now a house, dating from the early 18th century, specifically 1785, with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of rubble stone with stone tiled roofs. The earliest section, located to the right, is two and a half storeys high and features a gabled front facing the street. It has a bead-moulded single light window in the attic and two 2-light windows on the first floor. The ground floor includes a 3-light window with a dripstone, a 20th-century sash window replacing a door, and a 20th-century canted bay window.

To the left is a two-storey section that was originally a one-window cottage from 1785, which was expanded in the 20th century. This section has a coped right end gable with a saddlestone, a 20th-century ridge stack, and reset left end coping with a 20th-century end wall stack. The original range features paired 12-pane sashes in a flush surround and a datestone marked S.A.1785, indicating S. Aldbourne, on the first floor. The ground floor has a 3-light cyma-moulded mullion window with a dripstone and a central sash light, along with a door that has a hood supported by brackets. The 20th-century range has unmoulded 3-light mullion windows. The house is situated on an unnamed lane that runs north from The Green.
