Description

Brook Hall is a farmhouse dating to around 1600, with alterations made in the late 18th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble stone, with a hipped stone slate roof and brick stacks. The east front has two storeys and four windows, featuring a rendered Gothick facade from the late 18th century. There are two pointed doorways; the left one is blocked, and the one to the right of centre contains a 6-panelled door and a tripartite Tudor-arched sash window with Y tracery and glazing bars to the right, and two similar Tudor-arched sashes to the left. The first floor has four Tudor-arched 2-light casements with Y glazing bars. The left return side has a 19th-century lean-to extension with a blocked mullioned casement window visible within, an external brick stack, two blocked cross windows, and a cross window with casements to the first floor. The west front has a 19th-century lean-to porch with a slate roof and a 4-panelled and planked door inside. The first floor features a moulded cross window and a 4-light mullioned and transomed window. The left return side has 20th-century casements, and a concrete tiled roof to a wing that is attached to a 15th-century range. The interior suffered damage from a fire in 1958, which destroyed the roof timbers of the northwest corner. The interior was not accessible during a survey in July 1986.
