Description
Appletrees is an estate cottage built around 1865 for the Draycot Park estate. It is constructed of squared rubble stone with ashlar dressings and features a deep-eaved Bridgwater tile roof, along with ornate barge boards and eaves boards. The building has two storeys and a three-window range, with a projecting gabled centre bay, flush quoins, and Tudor-style mullion windows that have hoodmoulds and ogee heads. There are two-light windows on each side, and a single light window above the door, which has a Tudor-arched head and a flat hoodmould. The east end has a similar two-light window on the ground floor, while the northeast rear wing features a similar two-light window and a single light window on the first floor. This house was illustrated in a sale catalogue for Draycot House, where it was noted as a head gardener's house associated with the walled gardens behind. At that time, the upper centre window was blank and featured a crowned C monogram for the 1st Earl Cowley.
