Description
Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse with medieval origins, largely dating to the 17th century, and altered in the 19th century. It is built of rubble stone, originally roughcast, with a concrete plain tile roof, coped gables, and ashlar end stacks. The two-storey, four-window west front has three gabled dormers. It features four first-floor 19th-century tripartite sash windows, a late 17th-century two-light cyma-moulded recessed mullion window to the left, and a door flanked by further 19th-century tripartite sashes. The circa 1700 six-panel door is set within a bolection-moulded surround with a hood on brackets, although this is partially obscured by a 20th-century rubble stone porch in the style of Tudor architecture. Removal of the roughcast has revealed remnants of earlier mullion windows, however, cement remains on the lintels of the 19th-century windows and the jambs of the upper windows. A rear wing has a coped east gable and heavy cornerstones. A very large, blocked arched-headed window with a hoodmould is present on the east end wall, likely dating to the 17th century. An additional north-east rear wing has been added at the angle. The interior of the rear wing contains a fine first-floor pointed keel-moulded doorway, possibly from the 14th century. The left-hand room on the front range has a fine wave-moulded centre beam with a bar and run-out stops. The farmhouse was illustrated in a 1920 sale catalogue, which depicted it with roughcast render and only two dormers.
