Description
66 and 68 Bristol Street is a pair of houses that have been combined into one. They date from the early 19th century and are likely a remodelling of an earlier structure. The buildings are constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring brick gable stacks and a stone slate roof, with slate at the rear. They have a single-depth plan and are each two storeys high, with a one-window range.
The former No.66 has a central doorway with a timber lintel next to a former segmental-arched window that is now blocked with ashlar. The former No.68 has a rear entrance accessed by a through-passage to the right, with a rubble plinth exposed due to the falling ground. Quoins from an earlier house can be seen up to the first floor, and squared rubble is present between the first-floor window heads and the eaves from a raised roof. No.68 features a small segmental-arched ground-floor casement and first-floor windows that were inserted in the late 19th century, complete with brick jambs. The rear of the building has two 20th-century dormers, a left-of-centre doorway, and a 20th-century extension to the right.
Inside No.68, there are details such as chamfered beams and a rear winder stair.
