Description
Landour is a villa, divided into flats, built around the 1840s with later alterations. The exterior features roughcast walls that were originally stuccoed, and it has a hipped slate roof behind a parapet. The building has a double-depth rectangular plan with a central entrance facing Lower Woodfield Road. It is two storeys high and has a three-bay east front with pilaster strips on the left and right, along with a plain band beneath a deep projecting cornice and parapet above. The centre bay projects forward and has a pedimented gable. There is a projecting flat-roofed central porch with pilasters and a parapet, though it is somewhat obscured by a late 20th-century canopy supported by columns, and it features modern outer doors.
On the ground floor, the right window is a 9-pane sash with a floating cornice on consoles, while the first-floor windows in the centre and to the right are 12-pane sashes, with a blind window to the left. There is a single-storey flat-roof extension to the left of the porch. The south side is similar but lacks the porch and has some additions and alterations, with blind windows in the right-hand bay. The principal three-bay west elevation features pediments and broad pilasters on the outer bays, while the narrow centre bay has an aedicule on the ground floor and a shallow niche above. The first floor has 12-pane sashes, and the ground floor has French casements, with a lower flat roof extension on the left corner. The north side has various later additions. The interior has been significantly altered due to its conversion into flats, but it remains an important part of the group of villas around Torwood Gardens.
