Description

The gateway to Torwood Mount, which is not included in this listing, dates from the late 16th century and is located on the north side of Old Torwood Road in Torquay. It is constructed from local grey limestone, with some areas repaired using cement. The gateway features a blocked Tudor arch that has a moulding consisting of a fillet between two torus mouldings. Notably, it has unusual, deeply-undercut cushion stops. This gateway serves as one of the few architectural reminders of pre-19th century Torquay, as the original Torwood Manor House was demolished in 1843 and replaced by Torwood Terrace.
