Description

This is a row of six houses, originally part of a larger crescent of eight, built between 1822 and 1838 for the Palk Estate by Jacob Harvey and sons. Two houses in the centre of the row (Nos. 5-7) were destroyed in World War II and were rebuilt, now appearing as a single building that attempts to match the original architectural style. 20th-century additions are present at the rear.

The houses are rendered and have slate roofs with rendered stacks. Deep eaves are supported by paired, moulded brackets. They are two storeys high with a basement and attic. Nos. 3, 9-11, 13 and 15 have three bays each, while Nos. 5-7 are a five-bay building. The entrances to Nos. 3, 13 and 15 are to the side, whereas Nos. 5-7 and 9-11 have central entrances. The row exhibits a consistent style, with bays separated by plain pilaster strips that run from the wide first-floor sill band to the eaves band. Paired pilasters frame the building at Nos. 9-11, from which the eaves brackets extend. The first-floor windows at Nos. 3, 9-11, 13 and 15 appear to have originally had shorter, three-pane upper sashes. Nos. 9-11 and the rebuilt Nos. 5-7 feature tripartite windows with timber mullions on the first floor. The dormers at Nos. 3, 13 and 15 are segmental headed, likely original, although only the dormers at No. 13 retain their original three-over-three sash frames. Nos. 3 and 15 have six-panel doors, likely original, with No. 3 also featuring an original geometrical fanlight with margin lights. An Edwardian gabled porch with a slate roof, balustrades to the pediment, and stained glass panels has been added to Nos. 9-11. A modern canopy now covers the entrance to Nos. 5-7.

The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
