Description

The walls at the entrance to Oldway Mansion were built in the 1870s, around the same time as Oldway Manor, which was designed by GS Bridgman for Isaac Singer in 1874. Constructed from local red breccia, the walls feature some grey limestone toothed capping, along with sections of brick and concrete balustrading. These walls define the boundary of Oldway Mansion along Oldway Road. They vary in height; in front of the riding pavilion's exercise yard, they are particularly tall, with a section of brick above the red breccia and concrete balustrading. As you approach the house from Oldway Road, the walls curve inward, and one original square gate pier with a pyramidal cap remains. Beyond the entrance, the walls are lower and also have toothed capping. These walls are included for their group value with other listed items at Oldway Mansion on Torquay Road.
