Description

No. 2 is a house located on Church Street in Lower Brixham, dating from the mid-19th century. It features solid rendered walls and a slated roof that is hipped to the left. There is a rendered chimney on the right side wall, which is likely shared with the neighboring No. 4. The building has three storeys, with a basement that is exposed to Church Hill East at the rear due to the sloping ground.

The house is two windows wide, with the doorway positioned where the left-hand ground-storey window would typically be. The third storey has a centrally placed round-arched window that rises through the eaves into a triangular dormer-gable. All windows are fitted with 4-paned sashes. A deep, flat eaves-cornice extends around the dormer-gable.

Attached to the front wall is a street sign that reads 'CHURCH STREET' in blue and white glazed tiles. The left side wall has no openings, and adjacent to it is a small triangular space featuring a short retaining wall on the south-east side, where Church Hill East is at a lower level. This retaining wall is constructed of stone rubble topped with large slabs of Devonian limestone. The rear wall, facing Church Hill East, includes a window with 4-paned sashes in the basement, ground, and second storeys, along with a 6-paned wood casement window to the right of the ground and second storeys.
