Description
Paignton Windmill is a disused and partly ruinous windmill dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of purple limestone rubble with local red breccia dressings and is currently roofless. The windmill has a squat base that sharply tapers and consists of four storeys. The ground floor features one wide doorway on the side facing the lane, which has breccia voussoirs, and there is some internal evidence of a second doorway on the opposite side. Other openings on this level have breccia lintels or voussoirs. The first floor includes two opposed loading doors and two windows, while the second floor has four windows, and the third storey has two windows. Inside, some internal plaster remains, but the floors are missing.
