Description

Castor House and Castor Stores is a house that now functions as a residence and shop, believed to have originally been a farmhouse. It dates from the early 19th century and is likely a remodelling of an 18th century or earlier structure. The building features solid rendered walls and a steeply-pitched hipped roof covered with slates. There is a rendered chimney on the left side wall and a painted brick chimney on the hip to the right.

The building has a double-fronted and double-depth plan, with a small rear projection to the right, and stands two storeys high. The front, which faces north, has three windows. In the centre is a late 20th century wood glazed door, flanked by a late 19th century small-paned glazed porch with coloured margin-panes. On either side of the porch are early 20th century canted bay windows with lean-to tiled roofs; each bay window contains a 4-light wood casement with transom-lights featuring coloured leaded glass. The upper-storey windows are fitted with 6-paned sashes.

On the right side wall, which faces the road, there is a late 20th century shop front on the ground storey, while the upper storey has three windows, all with 6-paned sashes, except for the lower left-hand sash, which has lost its glazing bars.
