Description

Rea Barn House is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century, although it features a 20th-century date plaque inscribed A.D. 1636. The building has solid roughcast walls and an asbestos slated roof, with a lower section on the right that is roofed with corrugated iron. There are rendered chimneys with tapered caps on each gable of the main house.

The structure is a small oblong building, probably with a two- or three-room ground plan. The lower range on the right is set back slightly and is likely a former outbuilding. The house has two storeys and a garret. The main house features three windows on the ground floor, with a doorway between the two left-hand windows. The upper storey has one window at each end. The right-hand range has one upper-storey window, while the ground storey is covered by an added lean-to. The ground storey windows on the right are plain and have late 20th-century wood frames, while the left window is slightly older, featuring a six-panel wood frame. The upper-storey windows have three-light wood casements, possibly from the 19th century, with two panes per light. There is also a long, late 20th-century dormer with a flat top.

The right range has a small three-light window in the upper storey. The gable wall to the left, facing Bolton Street, has a projecting chimney breast. To the right of this chimney in the ground storey is a mid to late 20th-century wood-framed window with a small horizontally sliding light at the bottom. The upper storey has a small window with a six-paned fixed wood sash.

The interior has not been inspected, but a description from 1975 notes that it had some chamfered ceiling beams on the ground floor and a fireplace bressumer.
