Description

These garden steps, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, were built around 1934 and are located approximately 10 metres east of The Drum Public House in Torquay. Constructed from red brick with some tile, the steps descend from the forecourt of The Drum to the garden. The design features eight concave steps leading down to a circular platform with a brick pattern that includes some tiles, followed by six convex steps that continue down to the garden. There is also a corresponding flight of steps in the opposite corner, leading from the garden to a terrace by the mill pond. These garden steps are part of a particularly attractive group of listed buildings in the well-preserved village and adjacent Cockington Park.
