Description

The Hogg Memorial, located approximately 6 metres south of the south chancel wall of the Church of St Mary in Collaton St Mary, was erected in 1867 to commemorate Mary Maxwell Hogg and other members of the Hogg family. It features white Italian marble set on a red breccia base, with a marble cross atop a three-tier plinth that also has a breccia base and red breccia kerbs. The inscription honors Mary Maxwell Hogg, who died in 1864, was buried in Brixham, and was re-interred at this site in 1867. The Church of St Mary was built as a memorial to Mary Hogg and was dedicated to her memory by her father, the Reverend John Roughton Hogg, who also played a significant role in the construction of the nearby rectory and school, and is commemorated on the cross. The memorial is listed for its historical significance and group value.
