Description

These are a pair of cottages, likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, situated on Totnes Road, Paignton. They were originally built as a pair but were later divided into three separate dwellings. The cottages are constructed of cob with plaster rendering, and feature a thatched roof with a plain ridge, as well as stacks with rendered shafts. The main range is single-depth and originally comprised three rooms, with the two right-hand rooms heated by an end stack and an axial stack. A pair of front doors are positioned centrally and are thought to represent the original entrances, with a likely secondary front door on the right side. 20th-century additions have been made to the rear. The right-hand cottage incorporates what was originally No. 391, which was located in the centre of the original building. The cottages have two storeys and an asymmetrical three-window front. Recessed 20th-century doors are situated centrally, and a gabled 20th-century porch with a plank door is on the right. The windows are 20th-century casements with diamond-leaded panes, with three windows on each floor. The interior of the right-hand cottage, which incorporates the former No. 391, has undergone 20th-century alterations.
