Description
Clifton Terrace is a terrace of four houses dating to the 1850s, with number 11 possibly added later. The houses are stuccoed with slate roofs and rendered chimney shafts. Numbers 8, 9, and 10 are double-fronted, while number 11 is narrower and curves to accommodate a sloping site. The plan includes back-to-back properties with houses in Braddons Hill Road East, with the exception of number 3, which is included in the listing.
Numbers 8, 9, and 10 present a symmetrical three-bay front with 3 windows per bay. Numbers 8 and 10 exhibit deep eaves, verges, and platbands, with the central bay slightly recessed and the outer bays gabled. The ground floor windows are set in shallow segmental recesses; number 8 features a four-panel door and 12-pane sash windows. The first floor has three 12-pane sashes with a balcony, and the second floor has a central 12-pane sash and round-headed sashes with margin panes on the outer sides. Number 9 has an eaves cornice and similar windows and doors, with a 20th-century replacement balcony. Number 11 has a recessed bay to the left and a taller-roofed projecting bay to the right, curving at the end of the terrace. The windows of number 11 are late 20th-century replacements.
The interior remains uninspected but may contain features of interest. The terrace occupies a prominent location overlooking the central area of Torquay.
