Description
Bath Road Methodist Church is a Methodist chapel built around 1880 by Bromilow and Cheers of Liverpool, with alterations made in 1983. The church is constructed from coursed rock-faced limestone with ashlar Bath dressings set in black mortar, topped with a 20th-century blue tile roof featuring crested ridges. The building has a forebuilding with apsidal ends leading to the chapel, which includes a ritual-east crossing and a presbytery, along with side vestries and lower floor accommodation for mixed use. Designed in the Gothic revival style, the entrance door is raised and accessible via a ramp. The windows are deeply recessed and flanked by turrets that frame the elevation, with a balustrade walk connecting the turrets above the windows. The apses feature transomed lancets leading to stairs and a recessed timber glazed arcade beneath wide eaves. The nave contains transomed lancets, while the flush transept gables are adorned with a rose window and lancets under hood moulding. Inside, the church boasts an arch-braced roof with decorative hammer beams, a west gallery, and late 19th-century stained glass, though extensive alterations were made to the interior in 1983.
